ANIMAL FARM is an original rock and roll band with influences of rock, funk, pop, rap, hip-hop & alternative music. For the past two years, ANIMAL FARM has been playing many places in Los Angeles including The Dragonfly, Spaceland, Martini Lounge, Hollywood Moguls, The Garage, Jack’s Sugar Shack, The Joint, The Roxy, The Whisky, The Coconut Teaszer, Lush, The Blue Saloon, The Loft, The Sunset, The John Bull Pub, The Old Towne Pub, Dominico’s, and many other events.
It is hard to describe the band’s style. It began with guitarist, singer/songwriter Luc Giddens and drummer Charles Davidson in early 1997. George Orwell and The Who seemed to somehow mix. Bass player Rob Wingler (El Basso) was soon to join and help write the music adding a whole new sound with his funky bass grooves.
Shortly after its birth in 1997, ANIMAL FARM won first place in a "battle of the bands" competition in Pasadena. With the studio time that they won, the band began to record their first album with GreenMan Records. The album is now being sold at local record shops, gigs, and the net. Today the band is working on its second album which will consist of about half of the 30-40 tunes written by Luc & Rob since their last GreenMan sessions.
You haven’t heard ANIMAL FARM until you’ve seen them live! According to Luc "it’s all about energy. One minute I’m thinking The Beatles and the next minute I can’t get "A Tribe Called Quest" out of my mind. I think much of today’s audience does that too. A lot is happening these days and to us it only feels natural to make a variety of sounds. With a big crowd, the energy is like a ping-pong effect between the stage and the floor. We’ll put on a good show for even the smallest audience, but if there’s a big crowd we’ll give them much more than their $5 dollars worth. It’s moments like that that make it bumpin! It’s moments like that that make me want to throw down the Gibson and go dancing downtown."
